An action-packed clash between Derby County and Coventry City in the Rams’ first home game of the new season saw the visitors come out on top in a 5-3 reverse on Saturday afternoon.
The first half saw a back-and-forth contest at Pride Park Stadium, with both sides looking dangerous on the ball.
An eighth-minute free kick saw Bobby Thomas put Coventry in front against the run of play after a spell of Derby pressure. But a fantastic free kick by Callum Elder levelled the tie quickly, just four minutes later.
Haji Wright got the Sky Blues back in front, though, as Frank Lampard’s side were awarded a penalty in the 24th minute that he converted.
Then, in the 45th minute, Derby were awarded a spot kick for handball to cap off a lively half of football. Carlton Morris stepped up and scored his second Derby goal.
Derby had the lead in the second half when a long throw bounced onto the left foot of captain Ebou Adams, who rolled the ball low and into the back of the net.
But three goals in 15 minutes from Coventry’s Brandon Thomas-Asante, Ephron Mason-Clarke and Victor Torp restored Coventry’s lead and gave them a two-goal cushion to make it 5-3.
